When we are talking about party dresses for girls – we are talking of people who range from a toddler to a young adult. Hence there a few factors to be considered – what is the budget? What kind of party are they going to? What season is this party in? What is the location of the party? What is the girl’s age?
So many questions to answer before buying a few girls’ party dresses? We will answer all these questions to justify the purchase.
The Budget: Generally girls resist dressing up because they do not want to be considered the Barbie or girly kind of girl with no brains. You have to convince the girls otherwise that vanity is just an expression of the artist within all of us. But if your girl is already comfortable and enthusiastic, we need to discuss the pros and cons of buying a dress which suits your budget. Considering the lifestyle of the children today a fancy, frilly, much done up hence very costly dress would be impractical. As your school going, jeans or denim-skirt and t-shirt wearing girl is not going to be able to wear it very often. It will lie in the dress-up trunk at the foot of the bed most of its life. So the best option would be to choose something which can be assembled and disassembled into a mix and match with the other components of your daughter’s wardrobe. This mix and match will help tone up or tone down a dress and it will be in use often too. Another way to tone up a simple dress is by using accessories like headbands, belts, earrings, shoes, etc. Buy moderately fancy girls party dresses which can be worn casually too and are in light and neutral colors, made of a comfortable fabric which are light weight.
Kind of party: it could be a fancy dress party, a birthday party, wedding party, baby shower, etc. Also if it is an outdoor party, the party dress should not have a train behind it as it will trail in the dirt! Fun and games parties call for the girl’s party dresses which will not restrict movement.
What about the season? A light cotton, pastel-colored, slightly frilled or checked dress will be the most appropriate for your 8-year old to wear rather than a black velvet dress which would be fine for a Christmas party.
Where is the party? A beautiful sundress would be appropriate for a cocktail party or a casual party. A wedding and other formal occasions would require a silk sheath or other rich material to dress for the occasion. Girls’ party dresses are designed in various styles – a strapless, Victorian styles, Grecian styles etc. Most popular girls party dresses are made out of velvet, satin, chiffon, organza, tulle and embellished with stripes, bows, floral patterns, appliqués, rhinestones, lace trimmings, false jewels, beads, etc. Consider, if the party is conservative or accommodating to make sure that your girl does not get ridiculing or incredulous stares. If it is a conservative party – go in for neutral shades of black, whites and other neutral shades to blend in and if otherwise let the inner fashionista loose and let her explore the vivid colors and embellishments to express herself.
